CAMP OVERVIEW:

This was a special day! We had an amazing Drumline Camp at the Grid Book Percussion studio. People from all over came to camp, had a blast, and got a ton better! Thanks for everything fam, keep up the hustle on your journey through the world of percussion, and see you at the next one! 🙌💯

BIG SHOUTOUT TO OUR CAMP SPONSORS

A DAY OF DRUMMING & GETTING BETTER

INTRODUCTIONS

We started our day with introductions. Everyone said who they were, where they came from, and shared some fun non-drum related facts about themselves. This broke the ice and got everyone more comfortable to work together right away!

GOAL ASSESMENT

Next we did some goal assessment. Everyone shared their goals for the camp, and for what they want to accomplish on their percussion journey. This helped us fine tune the curriculum for the day so it was perfect for this specific group of campers.

GRIDBOOK CHOPOUT

To get the minds and body moving, we did our world famous CHOPOUT SESSION where we play chopout exercises to dope music. The music for this chopout can be found on our Spotify Channel. (Grid Book Chopout Playlist 022)

TECHNIQUE TALK

After the chopout, we did a deep dive into technique. Campers got a step by step breakdown of how to hold the sticks for both Matched and Traditional Grip, how to set the drum to an optimal height for your body type, and the mechanics of motion for both hands.

STROKE DEVELOPMENT

Once we got into the exercise packet, we broke down strokes and how they are the foundation for everything we play as rudimental drummers.

DEMONSTRATION

As the camp went on there was a lot of demonstration and explanations from the staff about how to perform. A camp favorite was when Mark Perrett turned 8 On A Hand into Book Reports using a layering of skill sets.

LOTS OF PLAYING

We played A LOT! Some of the campers said this was the most they have ever repped anything in a row before. It was exciting to see campers push themselves to their limit.

EPIPHANIES & BREAKTHROUGHS

There were a lot of "AH HA!" and "Ohhhhh!" moments at camp! One of these moments was playing 1 Note Timing on the "E" of a 16th Note Check. That second partial gets campers every time! But we lowered the tempo, broke it down, and got better at it!

CAMP Q&A

For the last hour campers had a chance to ask any question they wanted and we went in depth about leadership, dealing with adversity, playing advanced material, and much more.

CAMP SUCCESS

Everyone at camp had a blast, we loved working with this group, and we all walked away better and energized to continue growing. Thank you to everyone who came out and we'll see you soon!
