“Black Key” by Matt Albano is a fun and dark 4 mallet etude that works on independence. As you play this, maintain the consistency of the eighth note in the right hand while introducing the melody in the left hand. As intervals shift, keep a relaxed grip to achieve accurate mallet placement and a full, resonant quality of sound. In the “C” section, work on bringing out the melody in mallet 4 while maintaining the natural shaping in the main permutation.
