Put Your Mind To It

The hardest part of achieving any goal is to make a decision. You have to make a decision about what you want. Be very clear in what that is and once that is done, it all comes down to staying focused on that path.

Many of us have dreams of marching World Class ensembles, but we don't stay focused long enough to make that happen. You might practice for a month, then move your energy into something else once the initial inspiration is lost. But this lack of persistence might be the thing that keeps you from reaching your goal. It may seem too simple of a concept, but you have to

MAKE A GOAL and PUT YOUR MIND TO IT.

The hardest part about this is longevity. In this activity, it might take you a few years to finally achieve a long term goal. That's right...

YEARS.

We live with such an ephemeral mindset that it is hard to think something will take "OvEr A yEaR tO Do?" But if you have big goals, you have to understand those goals will take a long time to achieve. This means you have to open your perspective of time and be able to think "Years Down The Road", not just weeks.

"BUT HOW DO I STOP FROM GETTING BORED OR DISCOURAGED?"

Getting bored or discouraged is a common thing when you stop progressing. So you have to constantly work on your craft and make things happen regardless of adversity. You might have heard someone say "You can do anything if you put your mind to it", and guess what,

THEY'RE RIGHT.

If you get bored, scale your focus down to much smaller details of what you're doing. That will give you more to think about. And if you get discouraged, broaden your focus to see that things take time and mistakes are just stepping stones along the journey.

So keep moving, stay focused, and keep self awareness at an all time high. Your potential is waiting.
