"Wait Longer, Move Faster" is a concept that helps explain how to use velocity in your stroke. When you are playing, a marching snare for example, you rebound the stick off of a drum head. The rate that the stick moves can vary from technique to technique, but this technique ensures maximum velocity.
Basically with this concept you throw the stick towards the head, and after the rebound, wait longer to rebound the stick again for the next note. This means you will have to move the stick faster to stay in time. This might feel un-natural at first but can really help project your quality of sound.
Try this out and work towards the smoothest motion while also playing with velocity. Experiment with the amount of time between strokes and speed of the stick to find the best velocity stroke for you!
