DON’T BE REALISTIC

For some of us, it is unrealistic to think we will ever march a top 5 ensemble. If your dream corps is to march the Bluecoats, but you don't actually believe you can make it, you probably won't.⠀
Too often are our dreams crushed by being "Realistic". I want to do "THIS", but there are 10 very realistic reasons why I can't:⠀
1. I don't have enough money.⠀
2. I'm not good enough.⠀
3. It has never been done before or nobody in my family has done it before.⠀
4. My friends won't support me.⠀
5. I'm not strong enough.⠀
6. I'm too busy.⠀
7. It will be too much work.⠀
8. People will make fun of me.⠀
9. I might fail.⠀
10. If I do this, I won't be able to do something else.⠀
All of these have a remedy that you can figure out if you put your energy and passion towards it. What you might not realize is that the people you look up to, the people who are vets of the drum corps you want to march, the drummers of a band you love, or anyone who has accomplished great things, they are NO DIFFERENT than you. They just decided to put in the work and believed it was possible.⠀
And yes, you must be realistic to a certain extent. You won't just MAGICALLY make things happen, but not even trying because you're being "realistic" is something that could not only hold you back in the percussion world, but in everything you do in life.⠀
"Being realistic is the most traveled road to mediocrity." - Will Smith⠀
