DON’T MIND THE HATERS

The culture of percussion is a great tool for teaching you about drumming, but also teaches you a lot about life. You are here to produce a great performance, but you also learn how to deal certain things like scheduling, time management, cultural differences, adversity, saving and spending money, running on no sleep, personal criticism, and much more.

One of these aspects you learn about life is how to deal with negative people. There are always going to be people who will put you down, make you feel inadequate, or just flat out be mean to you for no reason. ⠀
DO NOT FUEL THE FIRE.⠀
The most common reaction to someone being negative towards you is to say something mean or negative in return. As “elementary” as this post may sound, you would be surprised how much this will come up over your full duration as a performer. The best thing to do is be friendly. I know, we are not in 3rd grade, but honestly the nicer you are to mean people, the more effective you will be in diffusing the situation. The funny thing is, the older you get, the more you will realize that it's actually the adults who give you the most problems. Kids are freaking awesome in comparison when it comes to how negative “Grown-ups” can be. But regardless of where it comes from, you have to know how to deal with haters.⠀
So do you! Don’t let what other people think or do dictate how you feel or produce. Other people can have different opinions than you, and people are going to be mean ON PURPOSE. There is nothing you can do to change that. So filter good critique from ignorant slander, and ALWAYS BE KIND
