The percussion community is an eclectic place with many different characteristics and sub cultures. And simply put, if there is something you really enjoy, you have to support it or it goes away. It is important to know that the heart of any activity doesn’t live in the money it generates, but in the art itself. However, for anything to continue, it has to be sustainable. Drumcorps fold, companies vanish, and eventually cultures die out if they don’t operate as a business.

Of course, not everyone has the means to purchase things, but if you do, just make sure you are investing in the things you love. Buy the ticket and go to the show, get that t-shirt or hat from that cool drum brand, pick up the music or book you always thought about getting. All of these small (and what may seem insignificant) purchases go a long way and on a broad scale, help the activity flourish.
