TALENT VS SKILL

All of us are here because there is something inside us that said “That looks cool and I want to do that!” There are many “ins-and-out” in this equation, but when you step back and look at it, we all want to be the best at our craft. Often times we get down on ourselves because we think we are not talented or as good as the people around us. ⠀
STOP THINKING THIS WAY.⠀
There are always going to be people out there who are more talented than you, but you have the opportunity to succeed through the development of skill. Without skill, even the most talented person cannot achieve their full potential and on a long enough timeline, skill can match the full potential of talent. With enough work, you can level the playing field. ⠀
If you tend to get discouraged quickly with the way you play, then take a different approach and follow a specific path to achieve a certain goal. If you want to get better at playing "choppy" music or etudes, you can’t just work on the music as a whole. You must develop the fundamental skill sets within the music so you can define the details of what you're doing. Try breaking everything down to its most basic form and become proficient in one skillset before moving on to the other. Always remember this:⠀
CRAWL. WALK. JOG. RUN.⠀
We don’t always start out as great as our expectations want us to be, so develop your skills, stay persistent, and you will succeed.⠀
